Why Read 30 Minutes Every Night?

The Importance of Nightly Reading   -  Each night we ask all 3rd graders to read for 30 minutes. We are working on developing a love of reading through student book choice and consistent practice. We have the students log their minutes, pages read, and books so that they can reflect on their home reading life. Reading at home is imperative to growing a lifelong reader. Here is a great article about the importance of reading and how to make that 30 minutes count. Please read for some great tips and ideas about reading for homework.  The Importance of Nightly Reading-What Should I be Doing?

A busy last 2 weeks in 3rd grade

Our short week in 3rd...October 16-18 Reading: We began our historical fiction unit by reading a classic novel as a class, Sarah, Plain and Tall. Students will learn all the components of historical fiction. Also, we will use this book as a way to learn how to do successful book clubs.  Happy Birthday Oliver! Tuesday - We celebrated all of our hardwork this year with a Gem Party. Students are working hard to be a class community of learners. I am so proud of their hardwork.    Wednesday - Students learn and practice how to stop and jot in their reading for discussions. Then use their ideas and what they learned to write about reading. Their thoughts and ideas are strong and their evidence proves it!   Happy birthday Mrs. Haradon!  Students took some time to tell Mrs. Haradon what makes her special.    Top Chef Willow October 23-27 in 3rd grade Monday- A rainy day calls for in-door recess-Stude
